A flagship programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Fit India Mission is all set to launch the ‘Fit India Champions’ podcast series.
It is being launched in partnership with GOQii, a major stakeholder in the fitness sector that proactively manages health through its digital and multimedia technology.

An innovative series that showcases the remarkable accomplishments and inspiring stories of India’s sporting heroes, the episodes start from January 27. The sensational armless archer Sheetal Devi, who took the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou by storm with her gold-winning feat on debut, will feature in the opening episode.
“I train for 6-7 hours every day, starting my day with stretching the bow and then start playing matches with my brother and sister. My inner mantra is ‘koshish karne walon ki kabhi haar nahi hoti’ and this helps me to win the matches,” revealed the Jammu archer.
World and Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra, who will be No. 2 in this enviable list of speakers, has revealed unknown sides from his professional career and the twists and turns in his life as a youngster. One of the fittest athletes in the world, Chopra talks about the goodness of a heathy lifestyle and how it helps the mind to perform at its peak.
Stressing on the need for fitness, Chopra said: “The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has given the clarion call of ‘Fitness ki dose, aadha ghanta roz’, but you can go beyond the training time of 30 minutes a day. It depends on the needs of your body and that needs to be done with proper balance and not overworking your body.” Chopra’s episode will be aired on February 10.
The 10-part series, full of intimate and insightful conversations, has been hosted by Ms Ekta Vishnoi, the Deputy Director General, Sports Authority of India. She is also the Mission Director of Fit India. The episodes will be available on multiple digital and social media platforms, including YouTube.
The episodes, to be released every second and fourth Saturday, will feature a diverse range of athletes and fitness influencers like Arjun Vajpayee. Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Sumit Antil, Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medalist boxer Nitu Ghanghas are some of the others who have participated in the Fit India Champions podcast series.
Coming as it does at a time when Indians are preparing for the Paris Olympics in July-August, 2024, the series aims to provide sports lovers an insight into the lifestyles of India’s sporting icons.
The Fit India Movement was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2019 with the aim of encouraging people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The movement has since gained immense popularity across India, with a variety of initiatives and programs being rolled out to promote physical activity and healthy habits.

Owing to the improving asset quality, increase in lending rates and effective management of Financing Cost, REC is able to record its highest ever 9M profit of ₹ 10,003 crores. As a result, the annualised Earnings Per Share (EPS) for the period ended 31st December 2023 accelerated to ₹ 50.65 per share as against ₹ 40.79 per share as at 31st December 2022.
Aided by growth in profits, the Net Worth has grown to ₹ 64,787 crores as on 31st December 2023, an increase of 18% YoY.
The loan book has maintained its growth trajectory and has increased by 21% to ₹ 4.97 lakh crore as against ₹ 4.11 lakh crores as at 31st December 2022. Signifying improving asset quality, the Net Credit-impaired assets have reduced to 0.82% from 1.12% as at 31st December 2022 with Provision Coverage Ratio of 70.41% on NPA assets, as at 31st December 2023.
Indicating the ample opportunity to support the future growth, the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CRAR) of the Company stands at a comfortable 28.21% as on 31st December 2023.

For the year 2024, 60 Parachute Field Hospital, Uttar Pradesh, in the Institutional category, has been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar-2024 for its excellent work in Disaster Management.
The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has instituted an annual award known as Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar to recognize and honour the invaluable contribution and selfless service rendered by individuals and organizations in India in the field of disaster management. The award is announced every year on 23rd January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 51 lakh and a certificate in case of an institution and Rs. 5 lakh and a certificate in case of an individual.
Under the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah, the country has significantly improved the disaster management practices, preparedness, mitigation and response mechanisms resulting in significant reduction in casualties during natural calamities. Union Home Minister continuously review disaster preparedness and stresses upon training of community and adopting best practices by the stakeholders to minimize loss of life and property.
For the award of year-2024, online nominations were solicited from 1st July, 2023 onwards. The award scheme for the year 2024 was given wide publicity through print, electronic and social media. In response to the award scheme, 245 valid nominations were received from institutions and individuals.
Following is a summary of the outstanding work of the winner of 2024 Award in the field of Disaster Management:
60 Parachute Field Hospital, Uttar Pradesh, was established in 1942. It is the sole airborne medical establishment of the Indian Armed Forces, recognized for its exceptional service in various global crisis. The primary mission includes Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations during natural calamities, nationally and internationally, both in time of peace and war. It had provided medical assistance during the Uttarakhand floods (2013), Nepal Earthquake under the operation name ‘Maitri’ (2015) and Indonesian Tsunami as part of operation Samudra Maitri (2018). Recently, in response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria in February 2023, the unit rapidly assembled a 99-member team and established India’s pioneering level-2 medical facility in Turkey overcoming resource constraints and language barrier to set up a 30 bed hospital in Hatay province’s school building. The unit provided a wide range of medical services, including rescue, triage, surgery, dental treatment, X Ray and lab facilities and offered care to 3600 patients during a 12 day period as a part of ‘Operation Dost’.

The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), an apex-level autonomous institution of the Government of India, commenced a Two-week Advanced Leadership Development Programme on Public Policy and Governance for Civil Servants of the African Region on 22-01-2024 afternoon. 36 senior officers from six countries, namely Eritrea, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Gambia, and Eswatini are attending the programme.
The inaugural session was addressed Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary DARPG and Director General NCGG. In his address, V. Srinivas highlighted the careful curation of the program based on recommendations of ministries from participating countries. The special focus of the capacity building program is on Land Management, Digitization of Land Records, Urban Land Management with lectures covering the SVAMITVA Scheme, rural property survey programs, and Land Records Modernization Programme, Real Estate Regulatory Authority, PM Gati Shakti etc. Emphasizing India’s commitment to digital transformation, V.Srinivas highlighted the role of technology in bringing citizens closer to the government. India’s policy maxim of “Maximum Governance, Minimum Government” has focused on Digital Empowerment of Citizens and Digital Transformation of Institutions to bring Citizens and Government using technology. The focus has been on effective grievance redressal using CPGRAMS, secretariat reforms focused on e-services and improving service delivery through integrated service portals. India was providing over 16000 services as e-services benefitting millions of citizens. The Capacity Building Program seeks to present India’s strides in technology, zero tolerance to corruption and ethics in governance to the delegates in addition to the focus on Land Reforms.
Mr. Lamin E Singhateh, Deputy High Commissioner of Gambia, expressed gratitude for the knowledge-sharing collaboration between Gambia, India, and NCGG. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning for professional and personal growth in today’s world.
Dr. A.P Singh, Course Coordinator and Associate Professor at NCGG, provided a comprehensive overview of the two-week program, detailing the diverse topics covered. The program includes sessions on governance paradigms, digital technology in housing, Aadhar for good governance, land records modernization, transparency in government procurement, rural property survey programs, public-private partnerships, effective office administration, climate change policies, sustainable development goals, agriculture in India, public policy perspectives, and India-Africa relation along with institutional visit to PM Sangrahalaya, DMRC, AIIMS and Visit to Taj Mahal.
The capacity-building program will be supervised by Dr. A.P Singh, Course Coordinator, Dr. Mukesh Bhandari, Associate Course Coordinator, Shri Sanjay Dutt Pant, Programme Assistant, and the dedicated capacity-building team of NCGG.

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal joined scores of Ram devotees from across the world as he watched the Pran Pratistha Mahotsav of Shri Ramlalla Sarkar in Ayodhya from the Auniati Shakha Satra Naamghar in Dibrugarh today.
The Minister began his day by taking part in ‘Swachch Teerth’ campaign at Hanuman Mandir as well as at Ramdev Mandir near Thana Charilai. Following this, Sonowal attended Hari Kirtan at the Auniati Satra Sakha Naamghar in Lakhi Nagar where he joined scores of devotees of Ram to watch the Mahotsav from Dibrugarh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Shri Sonowal said, “As we gather on this sacred day of Pran Pratistha of Bhagwan Shri Ramlalla in Ayodhya, let us embrace the spirit of unity and tolerance that defines our great nation. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will participate in Parakram Diwas celebrations at Red Fort on 23rd January at 6:30 PM.
In line with the vision of the Prime Minister to take steps to duly honour the contribution of luminaries who played a significant role in the freedom struggle, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was started being celebrated as Parakram Diwas in 2021. The programme being held this year at Red Fort will be a multifaceted celebration seamlessly weaving together historical reflections and vibrant cultural expressions. The activities will delve into the profound legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the Azad Hind Fauj. Visitors will get an opportunity to engage with an immersive experience through exhibitions of archives, showcasing rare photographs and documents that chronicle the remarkable journey of Netaji and the Azad Hind Fauj. These celebrations will continue till 31st January.
During the programme, Prime Minister will also launch Bharat Parv, which will be held from 23rd to 31st January. It will showcase the country’s rich diversity with Republic Day Tableaux and cultural exhibits, featuring efforts of 26 Ministries and Departments, highlighting citizen centric initiatives, vocal for local, diverse tourist attractions, among others. It will take place in the Ram Leela Maidan and Madhav Das Park in front of Red Fort.

Mines Secretary V L Kantha Rao Urges to Increase pace of Mineral Exploration

The 63rd Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) meeting was held today in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines. Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines,Shri Janardan Prasad, Director General, GSI,senior functionaries of different Ministries, State Directorates of Mining & Geology, PSUs, representatives from private mining industry, Mining associations and other stakeholders attended thecrucial meeting.
The proposed Annual Programme for ensuing Field Season year 2024-25 was placed before the Board for discussion. During the ensuing year 2024-25 GSI has formulated about 1055 scientific programs for the year 2024-25, which includes 392 Mineral Development projects (G2;G3;G4; and Offshore Explorations) that has the potential to generate auctionable mineral blocks in near future. 133 projects with mineral bias or Mineral Discovery Projects (RMT; Research Project; C-MAP;GT; MPA; Multispectral/Hyperspectral projects) having potential for generating promising areas for future exploration in G4 stage. Within the exploration activity, the major thrust has been given on the exploration of strategic & critical and fertilizer minerals. A total of 188 projects on these strategically important mineral commodities like REE, RM, Graphite, Lithium, Vanadium and PGE etc. have been approved for the year 2024-25,which is almost a jump of 50% from previous year’s target.
Also 111 projects under Natural Hazard Studies/Public Good Geoscience have been taken having societal benefits.Among these, 25 programmes are being taken up on State request/Disaster Management Authorities which includes programme mostly covering the Natural Hazards and 43 programmes are in collaboration with universities / agencies / under sponsorship of different authorities like IITs, NGRI, DRDO, NRSC-ISRO, University of Hyderabad, ASI, CGWB Ministry of Jal Shakti, SJVNL, NWDA, Indian Railways, BRO and State Irrigation Departments etc.
Besides, approval of the FSP items of GSI, the Report on Geological & Geotechnical investigation of Joshimath Township, Chamoli District was also unveiled by Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines for handing it over to Uttarakhand Govt. The Mineral Map of the newly carved out UT of Ladakh was also released on this occasion along with other significant publication of GSI.
During his address, Shri V. L. Kantha Raohighlighted the importance of scientific rigor in mining sector. He urged GSI and other exploration agencies to increase the pace of exploration and emphasized on exploration of Critical Mineral.He also urged the State Governments to be more aggressive in implementation of exploration projects through NMET funding.He requested stakeholders to make use of geoscience data available in NGDR portal for smooth exploration process.
A two-hour session was earmarked for the recently launched National Geoscience Data Repository (NGDR) portal, to brief stakeholders about this cloud-based portal, that will host all pre-competitive baseline geological and mineral exploration data making it available to all participants in the mineral and mining sectors. This repository is designed for utilization of cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) by Start-ups, private mining companies and other exploration agencies for identifying subtle patterns and relationships within vast datasets, terrain modelling etc. and has the capabilities to enhance the pace of mineral exploration significantly in near future.
In the presence of other senior officials, Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, inaugurated an Exhibition on the theme, “Mining and Beyond”, in which GSI, PSUs, DMFs, major mining companies, private exploration agencies, startups, Madhya Pradesh Government showcased their achievements. PSUs like Manganese Ore India Ltd. (MOIL), Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), National Aluminum Company Ltd. (NALCO), Mineral Exploration Consultancy Ltd. (MECL) showcased their best practices and technical advancements in this exhibition. While companies like HCL , NALCO and HZL gave the visitors a feel of mining and mineral processing through their VR system ,Hindalco through VR showcased their project of sustainable mining. BALCO and Tata Steel also participated in the exhibition. The students of engineering colleges of Bhopal also visited the exhibition and got first hand exposure of the mining sector.

About CGPB
The Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) is an important platform of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines wherein the Annual Field Season Program (FSP) of GSI isplaced for discussion and to avoid duplication of work. The members of CGPB and other stakeholders like State Governments, Central/ State Government Mineral Exploration Agencies, PSUs and Private Entrepreneursplace their requestsfor collaborative work with GSI. Based on the priorities set by the Government of India and the importance and urgency of proposals presented by the members and stakeholders, the Annual Programme of GSI for survey & mapping, exploration, Research and Development, multidisciplinary catering to societal projects and training & capacity building programmes during the forthcoming financial year is given a final shape after due discussion and deliberations held at the topmost level at CGPB meeting, chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
The Ministry of Mines, Government of India, vide notification dated 18th August 2023, had revamped/ reconstituted the CGPB Committee into 12 theme-based groups. The main objective of this reconstitution is to enable the States and other Stakeholders to accrue benefit from wider participation and interaction with GSI to further their activities and avoid duplication. It was felt that it would provide a forum for better coordination between Central and State level stakeholders by encouraging the regular functioning of State Geological Programming Boards (SGPB), set up by the State Governments. It was decided that the 12 Committees for the various sub-sectors would comprise members and invitees from the concerned States and Agencies engaged in activities in the field relevant to that particular sector and present their recommendations to the CGPB.
About Geological Survey of India
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) was set up in 1851 primarily to find coal deposits for the Railways. Over the years, GSI has not only grown into a repository of geo-science information required in various fields in the country but has also attained the status of a geo-scientific organisation of international repute. Its main functions relate to creating and updating of national geoscientific information and mineral resource assessment. These objectives are achieved through ground surveys, air-borne and marine surveys, mineral prospecting and investigations, multi-disciplinary geoscientific, geo-technical, geo-environmental and natural hazards studies, glaciology, seismo-tectonic study and carrying out fundamental research.
GSI’s chief role includes providing objective, impartial and up-to-date geological expertise and geoscientific information of all kinds, with a focus on policy making decisions, commercial and socio-economic needs. GSI also emphasizes on systematic documentation of all geological processes both surface and subsurface, of India and its offshore areas. The organization carries out this work through geological, geophysical, & geochemical surveys using the latest does so by using the latest and most cost-effective techniques and methodologies.
GSI’s core competence in survey and mapping is continuously enhanced through accretion, management, coordination and utilization of spatial databases (including those acquired through remote sensing). It functions as a ‘Repository’ for the purpose and uses the latest computer-based technologies for dissemination of geoscientific information and spatial data, through cooperation and collaboration with other stakeholders in the Geo-informatics sector.
GSI, headquartered in Kolkata, has six regional offices located in Lucknow, Jaipur, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Shillong and Kolkata and state unit offices in almost all states of the country. GSI is an attached office to the Ministry of Mines.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has announced ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana’ under which 1 crore households will get rooftop solar.
PM Modi said “today, on the auspicious occasion of the consecration of life in Ayodhya, my resolve has been further strengthened that the people of India should have their own solar roof top system on the roof of their houses.
The first decision I have taken after returning from Ayodhya is that our government will launch “Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana” with the target of installing rooftop solar on 1 crore houses.
This will not only reduce the electricity bill of the poor and middle class, but will also make India self-reliant in the field of energy.”
The Prime Minister posted on X :

आज अयोध्या में प्राण-प्रतिष्ठा के शुभ अवसर पर मेरा ये संकल्प और प्रशस्त हुआ कि भारतवासियों के घर की छत पर उनका अपना सोलर रूफ टॉप सिस्टम हो।
अयोध्या से लौटने के बाद मैंने पहला निर्णय लिया है कि हमारी सरकार 1 करोड़ घरों पर रूफटॉप सोलर लगाने के लक्ष्य के साथ “प्रधानमंत्री सूर्योदय योजना” प्रारंभ करेगी।
इससे गरीब और मध्यम वर्ग का बिजली बिल तो कम होगा ही, साथ ही भारत ऊर्जा के क्षेत्र में आत्मनिर्भर भी बनेगा।”
